Destination Growth: Lessons of a Getaway Wedding

Our world is dynamic; time passes and things change. Yet, most of us are unaware of the cycle; let alone understand our role within it. In fact, most of the time, we seem to be operating on auto pilot. Then life hands us a milestone.

Fleeting and precious, these moments are turning points that remind us of what’s important. Clarity, peace and intrigue once again stream in. We feel revitalized and connected. These are the moments that change us forever. These are the moments we experience growth.

On a secluded beach lined by the sea, I took my spot beside the man of my dreams. A white satin pathway brought me towards the shore. Stopping at a spot, I would remember forever more. Under a shady palm, in Ambergris Caye, Belize. I chose him. And he chose me.

The landscape was breathtaking. The experience surreal. So overwhelming, we had to feel it… to know it was real. Everything we wished for and more than we could have dreamed, our destination wedding was more than a postcard scene.

They say, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Growth is tricky like that. And although our growth is progressive, it is not always obvious. Even if you are aware of the growth in your life, you still won’t know where you are going until you get there. Our wedding is the perfect example.

Boarding the plane to Belize, I knew I would return from the trip a different person than I had come. But there wasn’t time to think about stuff like that…The wedding was just a few days away. My mind was frantic with chatter; most of it loud, highly distracting and ultimately unimportant. But efficient it was. It kept me totally distracted. No matter how much I prepared for it, I just couldn’t prepare for it. And in all of the chaos, it was easy to lose perspective. But when the anxiety, frustration and confusion had finally almost broke me (about the time the flowers arrived), it finally hit me… “I am getting married!”

Screw the flowers. And at that moment, I grew.

Today, 2 weeks have passed since the wedding. And the day is still a mystery. There is one thing we know so far, when life hands you a milestone, simply be open to it. Life will surprise you if you let it.

“Private, exotic and simply stunning! Las Terrazas really made our wedding a once in a lifetime experience for everyone” ~Dusty

A special thanks to my mom, Bristol Stone Events, Las Terrazas Luxury Resort, our family and friends for making our big day a true fairytale.
